Elisabeth Kosmides (legal name: Elisabeth Hikmat Gozami), born 1997 in Vienna, is an Austrian conceptual and visual artist. She lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
Kosmides works in the field of Artistic Photography, creating digital photographs and photomontages. Her work visually is characterized by painterly effects achieved during the photographic process and the use of coloured lights in darker environments. It is inspired by Neo-Pictorialism, while the photomontages remind of surrealistic paintings. The concepts underlying her work series are centered on deeply existential themes, such as personal trauma and impacts of cumulative stress, reflecting on psychological and somatic boundary experiences. At the same time her work approaches optimistic themes like Posttraumatic Growth and resilience.
Elisabeth works under her family’s original Greek surname, Kosmides, which was altered due to forced migration and displacement. By reclaiming it, she also connects her practice to questions of origin, identity, Transgenerational Trauma and healing.
